The Mormon volcanic field, also known as the Mormon Mountain volcanic field, lies south of Flagstaff in northern Arizona. Rather than a single mountain, it is a broad volcanic landscape formed by many separate eruptive centers. More than 250 vents are spread across over 2,500 square kilometres, about 970 square miles, showing the field’s large scale and dense concentration of volcanic features. It is characterized as both monogenetic and polygenetic, including vents created by single eruptive episodes and volcanic centers with more complex eruptive histories. This combination of size, density, and varied formation makes it a notable part of Arizona’s volcanic terrain.
