Huntington Harbor Light is an active offshore lighthouse in Huntington Bay on Long Island, built in 1912 after an earlier 1857 light at Lloyd Neck proved less effective for vessels entering Huntington Harbor. Originally called Lloyd Harbor Lighthouse, it is notable for its Beaux-Arts design, cast reinforced concrete construction, and foundation, which was built on land, floated to the site, and sunk in place. Staffed first by the United States Lighthouse Service and later by the United States Coast Guard, it was automated in 1949. After serious deterioration, a local preservation effort begun in 1985 saved and restored it, making that group the first private organization in the United States to take over and restore an offshore lighthouse.
