The Mero Mound Group, near Diamond Bluff in western Wisconsin, is an archaeological site with at least two village areas encircled by hundreds of mounds, including three effigy mounds. Built over about three centuries, from about 1000 AD to 1300 AD, it stands as an important example of Upper Midwest mound-building traditions because it combines habitation areas with a large mound complex. Also recognized as the Mero Archeological District, with expanded boundaries in 1992, the site is notable for the scale of its earthworks and for what it reveals about the communities that lived here and shaped the surrounding landscape.
