Farnsworth Peak, at the north end of Utah’s Oquirrh Mountains southwest of Salt Lake City, is named for television pioneer Philo Farnsworth and is best known as a major broadcast site rather than a hiking destination. In local use, the name often includes three nearby transmitter areas, and the mountain carries a large share of Salt Lake radio and television signals, including major stations. KSL-TV was the first to broadcast from the peak, and the site was among the first in the United States built specifically for digital television. Its concentration of transmitters has made outages there regionally significant, notably after a September 2009 lightning strike and the March 18, 2020 earthquake.
