Great Salt Lake State Park in Magna, on the south shore of the Great Salt Lake west of Salt Lake City, is one of the main public access points to the lake from the Salt Lake Valley. Opened as the Great Salt Lake State Marina and made a state park in 1978, it was expanded two years later and developed as a boating center. Its 300-slip marina, boat ramp, swimming and picnicking areas, restrooms, showers, and the Great Salt Lake Yacht Club make it a practical gateway to a shoreline that can otherwise feel remote in one of Utah’s most distinctive landscapes.
