The Mariners' Museum and Park in Newport News, Virginia, is a major maritime museum and wooded public landscape designated by Congress as America’s National Maritime Museum. Founded in 1930 by Archer Milton Huntington and shaped with Anna Hyatt Huntington, it grew from an 800-acre site into one of North America’s largest maritime museums, with vast collections, research facilities, exhibition galleries, and The Mariners’ Lake at its center. Its best-known attraction is the USS Monitor Center, which preserves and interprets recovered parts of the Civil War ironclad Monitor. The surrounding 550-acre park, including the Noland Trail and Lions Bridge, remains central to the site’s identity.
