Bunker Hill Covered Bridge in Claremont, North Carolina, carries old Island Ford Road over Lyle Creek along a route that began as a Native American trail. Built in 1895 by Andrew Loretz Ramsour through a local effort to create a maintained crossing, it is one of only two covered bridges remaining in the state and may be the last wooden bridge in the United States built with a Haupt truss. Originally an open span, it received its roof in 1900 and later changes to its shingles. Donated in 1985 and restored in 1994, it is valued as a rare survival of 19th-century bridge building and engineering.
