USS Missouri, BB-63, was the last battleship commissioned by the United States and became one of the most famous warships of the 20th century. An Iowa-class fast battleship built at the Brooklyn Navy Yard and commissioned in 1944, she served in the Pacific War at Iwo Jima, Okinawa, and against the Japanese home islands. On her quarterdeck, the Japanese Instrument of Surrender was signed, formally ending World War II. Missouri later served in the Korean War, was modernized for renewed service in 1984, and took part in Operation Desert Storm in 1991 before final decommissioning and preservation at Pearl Harbor.
