The Dempster No. 12 Annu-Oiled Windmill has been produced by the Dempster Manufacturing Co. in Beatrice, Nebraska, since 1922. It was made in six-, eight-, ten-, twelve-, and fourteen-foot sizes, and this example is a six-foot model. The Dempster Windmill Co. is one of two remaining companies manufacturing windmills in the United States. Dempster windmills are a common sight on the Eastern Plains, where they still pump water for animals. Students at the local high school constructed the one X model wooden tower from redwood.
