The Steinberg Museum of Art in Brookville, New York, on Long Island University’s C.W. Post campus, began in 1988 as the Hillwood Art Museum and was renamed in 2014 to honor retiring university president Dr. David J. Steinberg. After leaving its original home in Hillwood Commons, it was rebuilt in the B. Davis Schwartz Library and opened there in April 2017. Affiliated with the university’s School of Visual and Performance Arts, the museum presents temporary exhibitions spanning antiquity to contemporary art and holds a permanent collection of more than 4,000 objects. It also serves the campus and surrounding community through educational and cultural programs.
