In New Bedford there stood a whaleman’s chapel, a place that few moody fishermen, shortly bound for the Indian or Pacific Oceans, failed to visit on a Sunday. It was known as the Whaleman’s Chapel of Herman Melvilles Moby Dick and as the Office Mariners Home.
