Historic Mill Creek is one of the oldest industrial sites on the Upper Great Lakes, where sawyers demonstrate the pit saw method of cutting lumber, a reconstructed sawmill uses the power of the creek to cut timber, and trained naturalists present programs on the natural beauty of the North Woods. Fort Mackinac, established in 1780, features cannon blasts, rifle fire, marching soldiers, 14 buildings, and regular demonstrations and tours, with admission also including the Mackinac Art Museum, Biddle House, Benjamin Blacksmith Shop, American Fur Co. Store, and others. Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse, established in 1889, served as a guiding beacon for ships navigating the treacherous waters of the Straits of Mackinac, and its authentically restored quarters and exhibits, including the original lens, historic interpreters, and the Straits of Mackinac Shipwreck Museum, preserve the history of the "Castle of the Straits."
