At the Battle of Salem Cemetery on December 19, 1862, a memorial stone honored the gallant men of the Federal Army and those killed in action there, including Pvt. Elisha Stout of Company G, 61st Illinois Infantry, and Corporal Adam Kehl of Company A, 11th Illinois Cavalry.
