Jackson County troops served the Confederate States of America during the Civil War. A C.S.A. statue that had been broken in 1940 was approved for replacement in 2008 by the City of Jefferson and the Historic Preservation Commission, and the monument was dedicated in 2011 by the Sons of Confederate Veterans, the International S.C.V., the Georgia Division S.C.V., Jackson County Volunteers S.C.V. Camp 94, and Jefferson Friends of the Monument.
