Bancroft Ranch House
History
15
The Bancroft Ranch House is an adobe built about 1850 by A.S. Ensworth. It was the home of Capt. Rufus K. Porter and family, and its curved timbers were brought from the Clarissa Andrews, a famed coaling hulk formerly of the Pacific Mail Steamship Co. Historian Hubert Howe Bancroft later owned the estate and wrote part of his monumental History of California here.
