Union Church was established in the late 1840s in the small settlement of the same name in what was then Itawamba County. The community of Union was first settled in the mid 1840s. After once sharing a building with another local congregation, Union Church built this sanctuary between 1848 and 1858. The adjoining cemetery, established in October 1855 with the burial of Anna McShan, is also the final resting place of a number of Civil War soldiers.
