Tombigbee State Park in Mississippi lies about five miles east of Tupelo near the Tombigbee River and centers on ninety-acre Lake Lee. It was among the first state parks developed in Mississippi during the 1930s through the work of the Civilian Conservation Corps, whose crews began construction on June 1, 1934. The park opened to the public in 1936, and its New Deal-era origins remain central to its identity. That early development gained formal recognition when the Tombigbee State Park Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1999. The park now serves as a recreation area with camping, cabins, fishing, picnic areas, and disc golf.
