The U.S.S. Maine was destroyed in Havana Harbor on February 15, 1898. A tablet was cast from metal recovered from the U.S.S. Maine. A bas relief of Teddy Roosevelt appears with the quotation, "Aggressive fighting for the right is the noblest sport the world affords."
