Cedar Point began in 1870 as a lakeside bathing and recreation resort on a Lake Erie peninsula at Sandusky, Ohio, growing from Louis Zistel’s ferry service, bathhouse, and beer garden into a full public resort with pavilions, bathhouses, and entertainment halls. After acquisition by the Lake Erie and Western Railroad in 1897, it expanded with hotels, restaurants, and landscaped attractions, including Hotel Breakers. Over the 20th century it evolved from resort to major amusement park, with improved access, landmark rides, and record-setting roller coasters shaping its national reputation. Today it remains a prominent seasonal park, historic resort landscape, and leading coaster destination in North America.
