Mill Neck School operated from 1927 to 1959 and was funded with a grant established by Julius Rosenwald and Booker T. Washington. Their initial funds, along with additional contributions from African American families and private and county funds, sought to build a school that would provide African American communities with improved education. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on January 5, 2018.
