A portion of the Old Natchez Trace, a nearly 200-year-old road, is preserved here. Maintaining this 500-mile-long wilderness road in the early 1800's was a difficult, if not hopeless, task. The sunken trench and the large trees growing on the edge of the 10-foot-wide strip cleared today testify to the endless struggle between people seeking to alter and change the landscape and nature reclaiming, restoring, and healing it.
