The gazebo was built in 1992 in memory of Martha Hermann, curator of French Azilum from 1966 to 1985 and president from 1979 to 1985. Many of the displays and programs at French Azilum were her accomplishments, and she was remembered as a remarkable, talented, hardworking lady with charisma.
