Scalplock Mountain Fire Lookout, built in 1931 in Glacier National Park, was part of a chain of staffed lookout posts used for early fire detection. The low, two-story timber building, topped by a pyramidal roof and based on standard plans derived from U.S. Forest Service designs, commanded wide views over the Park Creek valley and toward the Middle Fork of the Flathead River. From this vantage, watchers could monitor a corridor used by both the Great Northern Railway and U.S. 2, routes linked to frequent fire danger, making the lookout an important part of protecting the park’s surrounding landscape.
