Mount Tamalpais State Park
Nature
Mount Tamalpais State Park in Marin County, California, preserves around 25,000 acres centered on 2,571-foot Mount Tamalpais, with redwood and oak forests and Muir Woods National Monument enclosed within surrounding park lands. It is a major recreation landscape, with about 60 miles of trails in the park linking to a broader 200-mile network across nearby public lands. The summit offers wide views over San Francisco, the North and East Bay, the Farallon Islands, and on rare clear days the Sierra Nevada. The park also includes the Cushing Memorial Amphitheatre, or Mountain Theater, home to the Mountain Play and summer astronomy programs.
