Fort William stood 600 yards southwest on the east bank of the Multnomah Channel. Nathaniel J. Wyeth, a Massachusetts trader and founder of Fort Hall, established Fort William near Warrior Point in 1834 and moved the establishment to this site in the spring of 1835. Neither salmon fishing nor trading proved as successful as Wyeth hoped, and he abandoned Fort William in the spring of 1836.
