While searching for an enemy mortar position, Robert C. Murray’s squad tripped a booby-trapped grenade when one member stumbled into it. Instantly recognizing the danger to his men, Murray threw himself on the grenade without hesitation or regard for his own safety and absorbed the full, fatal force of the explosion. His self-sacrifice prevented the death or injury of other members of his squad.
