Joe E. Lewis was born in Pennington, Arkansas on January 4, 1937, to John and Itha Lewis. Remembered by those who knew him as a legend in his time, he was a member of the Twitty Bird Band and gave it twenty years of service, bringing joy to millions who loved country music. He also wrote several hit songs that could be heard throughout the country. Loved by many, he was also known for his own great love for people, a characteristic that made him a giant of a man. His life ended abruptly on April 15, 1976, as the result of an automobile crash, but his instrument, melody, and works endured in the hearts of the American people.
