Millers Pond State Park in Connecticut lies on the Durham-Haddam border beside Cockaponset State Forest. Its center is the 33-acre, spring-fed Millers Pond, whose notably clean water supports trout and smallmouth bass. The pond originated in 1704, when Thomas Miller built an upper dam to create a reservoir for his downstream gristmill, shaping both the pond and its name. In 1955, the state acquired the pond and 170 surrounding acres from the heirs of Thomas Macdonough Russell through a broader series of 1950s land purchases funded by George Dudley Seymour’s bequest, and added more land in 1972. Today it supports fishing and other quiet outdoor recreation.
