Isaac Stephenson, who said he hoped the problems of life would be met and solved as they arose to the happiness and contentment of humankind, was born at Maugerville, New Brunswick, on June 18, 1829. He came to Wisconsin on November 15, 1845, lived in Masonville and Escanaba in Michigan's Upper Peninsula from 1848 to 1858, and located at Marinette, Wisconsin, in 1858. He served in the Wisconsin Legislature in the sessions of 1866 and 1868, served in the 48th, 49th, and 50th Congresses, was elected to the United States Senate in May 1907 and served eight years, and died at Marinette on March 15, 1918.
