Knobs State Forest is a protected forest and wildlife management area in Bullitt County, Kentucky, used for sustainable timber production while remaining open for public day use. Rapidly cleared in the 1840s and selectively logged again in the late 20th century, the land was later sold to the state by Dr. James G. Kuhns and Anne E. Kuhns-van der Steur for permanent preservation. Established in 2006 and expanded later that year and in 2018, it became Kentucky’s sixth state-owned forest and first Forest Legacy Project. Mostly forested with upland hardwoods, it supports diverse plant life and recreation centered on hiking, hunting, and wildlife viewing.
