The North Museum of Nature and Science in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, began in 1953 with help from local businessman Hugh M. North and was originally part of Franklin & Marshall College. In 1992 it became an independent institution, shifting from an academic museum to one serving the broader community in its own right. Its collections and exhibits present the natural world through birds, rocks and minerals, fossils, and live animals. Notable holdings include several dinosaur fossils and an authentic moa skeleton. After renovation in 2014, it reopened in 2015 and continues to emphasize nature, science education, and discovery.
