Shreiner-Concord Cemetery
Lancaster, Pennsylvania · A site of national significance
History
Martin Shreiner, a noted maker of fine clocks and early fire engines, established this cemetery in 1836 and later called it "an ornament to the City." It was the only public burial place in the City of Lancaster that accepted the remains of people of all races. More than 40 veterans are buried here, mostly from the Civil War. Because of the presence of Congressman Stevens grave and memorial, and his efforts to support freedom seekers, the property was recognized in 2006 with listing in the National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom program. The property is located within the City of Lancaster National Historic District, as recognized in 2001 by the National Park Service, and is also recognized as a Heritage Resource by the Lancaster County Heritage program.
