Falls Lake State Recreation Area is a North Carolina state park near Wake Forest along Falls Lake in Durham and Wake counties. Closely linked to the Falls Lake Project, it occupies shoreline created after severe Neuse River flooding led the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to build the dam from 1978 to 1981. The project supports flood control, water-quality management, water supply, and fish and wildlife conservation, while the park provides major public access for hiking, camping, biking, and paddling. Its landscape also preserves older rural history through the James Mangum House and Rock Cliff Farm, blending engineered waters, recreation, and historic sites.
