Bamboo Brook Outdoor Education Center in Chester Township, New Jersey, began as an eighteenth-century farm known as Merchiston Farm and became most significant as the home and designed landscape of American landscape architect Martha Brookes Hutcheson. After she and William Hutcheson bought the property in 1912, she transformed the house and grounds, including a Colonial Revival expansion, while architect William Lawrence Bottomley added another expansion in 1927. Hutcheson lived there until 1959, and the site is important chiefly for her landscaping work. Part of the Morris County Park Commission since 1972, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989 and now functions as a public garden and outdoor education center.
