Yellow Creek State Park in Indiana County, Pennsylvania, was established in 1963 in Brush Valley and Cherryhill Townships, where Yellow Creek, Little Yellow Creek, and the old Kittanning Path cross the landscape. Its centerpiece became Yellow Creek Lake in 1969, a 720-acre man-made lake created by a dam and used for boating, fishing, and swimming. Expanded by additional land in 1982, the park also offers beaches, hiking trails, picnicking, cottages, yurts, hunting, and both lake and stream fishing. It has also stood out for environmental measures, becoming in 2008 the first Pennsylvania state park to switch from gasoline-powered lawn mowers to propane models as part of broader efforts to reduce emissions and fuel use.
