Leaman's Place Covered Bridge spans Pequea Creek in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, on a site first settled in 1712 by Mary Ferree's family under a grant from William Penn in an area then inhabited by the Pequaws Indians. James C. Carpenter built a covered bridge here in 1845, and Elias McMellan rebuilt it in 1893, creating the form that remains after rehabilitation in 2004. This county-owned wooden bridge uses double Burr arch trusses with steel hanger rods and oak-plank decking. Modest in size and painted in the county's traditional red-and-white scheme, it remains an active crossing and a preserved example of Pennsylvania's 19th-century bridge building.
