Dayton State Park in Dayton, Nevada, combines riverside habitat with the preserved remains of the Rock Point Stamp Mill, a major Comstock-era ore-processing site built in 1861 to handle silver ore from Silver City and Virginia City. Divided by U.S. Route 50, the park includes woodland and recreation areas along the Carson River as well as the mill ruins, where features such as footings, retaining walls, waterways, and flume remnants survive. Flooding in 1997 altered the river’s course, adding another layer to the landscape’s history. After later use as Dayton’s garbage dump, the property became a state park, opening to the public in 1979.
