Madelyn Pugh Davis, born March 15, 1921, in Indianapolis, became one of television's most famous writers. She wrote her first play at age 10 and later became head writer for I Love Lucy. In 1964, she married Marion doctor Richard Davis at the Hostess House and moved from Hollywood, California, to Marion during the peak of her career to raise a family and live in a Shady Hills house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. While in Marion, she often worked at Erma's restaurant with her writing partner of 50 years, Bob Carroll. A pioneer for television and female writers, she was nominated for three Emmys, helped create the Lucy character for Lucille Ball, and wrote for major shows including I Love Lucy, The Steve Allen Show, Here's Lucy, Life with Lucy, The Paul Lynde Show, The Carol Channing Show, The Mothers-In-Law, and Alice, for which she won a Golden Globe. In 1966, her work took her family back to Los Angeles, but her ties to Marion remained strong, reflected in her book, Laughing with Lucy. She died at age 90 on April 20, 2011.
