Burra Burra Mine

A small section of Burra Burra Mine was deliberately worked close to the surface because the ore there was especially rich. After the ore was carefully removed, the section was abandoned because of the serious risk of a cave-in. When this area collapsed in 1925, it was no longer being worked and no one was injured. The bare land around the cave-in was left unplanted during reclamation in the second half of the 20th century, but later generations of nearby trees have covered most of the original red clay.
