Founded in 1965 and later moved to the Vernon College grounds, the Red River Valley Museum preserves the history of Vernon, Wilbarger County, and the surrounding Red River Valley through exhibits on natural history, local people, ranching, agriculture, oil, art, and wildlife. Its collections range from dinosaur fossils and indigenous artifacts to materials linked to Quanah Parker, the Doan family, the Great Western Cattle Drive, Jack Teagarden, Roy Orbison, and Electra Waggoner Biggs. The museum also interprets the Waggoner Ranch and the oil industry, while the Bond Gallery’s worldwide animal collection, remodeled in 2020, emphasizes conservation and human effects on wildlife.
