Sleepy Creek Mountain is a long, forested ridge in the Ridge-and-Valley Appalachians of West Virginia’s eastern panhandle, extending into northern Virginia along the Morgan and Berkeley county border. With Third Hill Mountain, it forms a blind valley containing Sleepy Creek Lake and the Sleepy Creek Wildlife Management Area, a distinctive landscape in a region otherwise known for relatively level terrain. The ridge runs southwest to northeast, reaching notable high points at Shockeys Knob, High Rock, and its highest summit north of Locks-of-the-Mountain, where it joins Third Hill Mountain. Entirely wooded and rich in wildlife, the mountain remains important for habitat, scenery, and backcountry recreation.
