Men from Hartford Village serving in Ohio and Illinois Civil War units died in combat, in service, in captivity, and by accident at places including Chickamauga, Atlanta, Kenesaw Mountain, Annapolis, Franklin, Murfreesboro, Nashville, Jefferson City, Ringgold, Shiloh, Memphis, and Youngs Point. Among them were James Wheelock, Stewart J. Ogilive, August McComb, Lyman Lincoln, William H. Lane, John D. Stephens, Aaron Thrall, Wm H Bowers, Martin Franks, Silverster B. Graves, John R. Miller, William Criswell, George Clark, Benjamin Cowell, Hosey Cooley, Rufus Buxton, Jacob Bixler, Lewis Cooley, Henry S. Seymour, and Charles Baker, serving in companies of the 113th, 18th, 31st, 25th Illinois, 76th, 4th, and 112th regiments, with deaths recorded from 1862 through 1864.
