Bristol Ferry Light stands at Bristol Point on Narragansett Bay in Bristol, Rhode Island, near the northern end of Mount Hope Bay. Built in 1855 as a two-story square brick tower with an attached one-and-a-half-story keeper’s house, it guided traffic on the ferry route between Bristol and Aquidneck Island before a bridge crossed the bay. Its service ended in 1927 when the Mount Hope Bridge opened and an automated beacon was placed across Ferry Road. The former lighthouse survived as a private residence and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988, preserving a site whose narrow waters long made navigation aid necessary.
