Candia honored the one hundred fifty-five men who served in the War of Revolution, including those killed, Lieut T Dearborn and P Hills; the five men who served in the French and Indian War of 1756; the one hundred twenty-six men who served in the War of Rebellion, including those killed, S.C. Haines, G.C. Emerson, S. Dearborn, E Harris, D.R. Daniels, and J.P. Bean, and those who died in service, D.O. Dudley, J.G. Batchelder, G.B. Carr, L.B. Wallace, N.G. Hardy, E.P. Lane, E.F. Brown, A.M. Morrill, D. Hare, B.F. Swain, GMD Mead, C.F. Hoyt, Ivan Clark, J.H. Gile, and J. Moore; the forty-eight Candia men who served in the War of 1812; J.B. Webster, killed in the Mexican War in 1847; and the thirty-four men who served in World War I, including Lieut. Wm. Hervey Thomas, killed in action. The monument was presented by Gov. Frederick Smith Foundation by the town.
