Built from 1907 to 1909 by students in the early forestry classes using trees and sandstone from the nearby hills, Conklin Hall served as a dormitory until 1989. It was named for Robert Conklin, the Pennsylvania Commissioner of Forestry who supervised its construction. In its early years, it also included classrooms and a wood laboratory. Renovated from 1993 to 1994 with support from alumni, local businesses and industries, and the University, it reopened in 1994 as a student center. An early yearbook remembered it as a place whose days would be recalled in later life with quiet contemplation.
