Dr. John Watkins was one of the framers of the constitution of the State of Ala, represented Monroe Co. in the first legislature of the new state in 1819, and represented Butler, Conecuh and Monroe Cos. in the State Senate in 1820, 1842, and 1845. He was the only physician between the Ala. and Chattahoochee Rivers during that period.
