McNair's Stand
History
13
About 1800, David McNair, a Scotch pioneer who married Delilah Vann, daughter of a Cherokee chief, built a home near a grove that was a Cherokee council ground and the terminus of the Ocoee-Conasauga portage. During the War of 1812, he commanded a company in Morgan’s Cherokee Regiment. He and his wife are buried in a plot near the site of the house.
