First National Bank of Cleveland received its charter from the U.S. Treasury Department in 1912, becoming the oldest national bank in Liberty County. Property at 127 North San Jacinto Street was purchased in 1913, and the original bank building was constructed there. In 1931, prominent Houston architect Alfred C. Finn designed an addition and remodeling that doubled the building's size. When the City of Cleveland was incorporated in 1935, the bank provided space for the mayor's office and for city council meetings, and the building also housed dental and law offices. In the late 1960's, administrative departments of the Cleveland Independent School District and the district superintendent occupied office space there. After a new bank building was constructed on Crockett Street in 1969, the original building became the offices of the Trinity Valley Savings and Loan Association. Following a succession of other owners and businesses, Cook Construction of Cleveland, Texas restored the building in 2013, and it is now known as the San Jacinto Professional Building. For more than 100 years, it has been a landmark and anchor in downtown Cleveland's business district.
