Centre County was formed on February 13, 1800, from Huntingdon, Mifflin, Lycoming, and Northumberland counties. It was named for its location in the state and is home to The Pennsylvania State University. Bellefonte, the county seat laid out in 1795, was home to five governors of Pennsylvania.
