Ambassador Auditorium, the final and most elaborate structure in the building program begun in 1964 by Ambassador College, opened with an inaugural concert on April 7, 1974. Designed by the architectural firm of Daniel, Mann, Johnson and Mendenhall, it was constructed over a period of 26 months. The building features exterior walls of emerald green granite from Brazil, rose onyx from Turkey and Iran in the lobby, and Brazilian rosewood and Burmese teakwood in the interior. Serving as both a college auditorium and a concert hall, its excellent acoustics, quality craftsmanship and a world class concert series gave it a reputation as one of the finest concert halls in the world. The recirculating reflecting pool covers one-half acre, with a fountain centerpiece designed by sculptor David Wynne consisting of five bronze egrets each weighing one ton.
